Melanotan 2 (Melanotan II) is an injectable peptide mainly used to greatly increase the body’s ability to tan. The darkening of the pigment in your skin is a result of exposure to UV rays. When your skin is exposed to UV rays, melanin is produced to protect the skin from burns and sun damage.
A tan is almost like a shield.
The darker you are, the stronger your shield is. This is why super pale people are most vulnerable to skin cancer and burns.
Melanotan 2 was originally designed to prevent the risk of skin cancer, and it certainly can.
After taking Melanotan 2, your body will be stimulated to produce an exponentially higher level of melanin. Since melanin is the main factor in skin color, your skin can potentially become darker the more melanin you produce.
Melanotan 2 is a substance that helps the body produce increased amounts of the natural hormone melanin. Melanin is the hormone that keeps us from burning in the sun. That said, an increased amount of melanin contributes to better protection against sunburn. Melanotan 2 stimulates the melanocytes in the body to produce melanin. The natural human hormone for the process, α-MSH (alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone), is about one thousandth as potent as Melanotan 2.
With an increased amount of melanin in the body from melanotan, you will tolerate the sun much better and instead of the annoying red color, you get a nice golden brown color that lasts much longer than usual.
As Melanotan 2 will greatly promote melanogenesis in all users, greater levels of melanin can be produced, protecting the hypodermis (the layer under the skin) from potentially harmful UV rays.
Melanotan was discovered at the University of Arizona in the 1980s and is widely used in Australia by people with poor pigment who burn frequently and badly, and are therefore prescribed by doctors to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Melanotan 2 has been thoroughly analyzed via clinical trials and they showed that Melanotan 2 could safely promote melanogenesis (the process by which melanocytes in your body produce more melanin).
During tanning, it is the UV rays that activate melanin production and the tan becomes a kind of defense against these harmful UV rays. Melanocytes in the body produce ‘melanin’ when the skin is exposed to sunlight. The melanin then moves into surrounding skin cells to protect them from the sun’s rays. The benefit of a tanned complexion is that the body more easily fights sunburn (PMLE) and actinic keratosis (AK). Melanotan II has the additional effect of causing spontaneous sexual arousal (libido) in both men and women. Melanotan 2 also has the side effect of reducing appetite, hence some people lose some weight during the period of using Melanotan 2.
